Dog Lured to Safety By Sausage Attached to Drone
Good news! Thanks to some quick thinking and ingenuity from rescuers, Millie the jack russell whippet has been rescued from dangerous mudflats in Hampshire England. MIllie escaped from her home in Havant and ended up in the local mudflats, and in danger of being swallowed by the rising tide. The flats made rescue efforts difficult and Millie wasn't convinced of the good intentions of the rescuers. Clearly they would have to think outside the box to get the dog to safer, higher, ground.
Enter 21st century ingenuity. The rescue team came up with the idea to attach a single piece of sausage to a drone and lure the dog to safety with the scent of her favorite food. They were donated sausage from a local at the beach and cooked the meat before attaching it to a string on the drone. As cartoonish of a plan that it seemed, it actually worked! Millie was able to grab the scent and follow the drone to higher ground and eventual safety. Millie was reunited with her owner, Emma Oakes, and is now resting at home.
No word on whether Millie was able to keep the sausage or not.
