Dog Adoption is So High During Covid, Shelters Are Running Out

Good news! Since the coronavirus pandemic, Washington area animal shelters have seen double the requests for pet adoption than pre-covid levels. Since more people have been spending time at home, the interest level in pet adoption has hit a fever pitch.

The increase in pet adoption in not just specific to Washington, as several shelters across the country have benefitted. Last Chance Animal Rescue in Waldorf, MD has seen a 30-40% increase in pet adoption over the levels seen in 2019. Lucky Dog Animal Rescue in Arlington, VA has seen an increase from 1,800 adoptions in 2019 to 3,385 in 2020.
